OUR PHILOSOPHY
Pilates has exploded from a niche rehabilitation practice into one of the fastest‑growing fitness trends. “Pilates inspired” workouts have popped up everywhere across the world. It’s a workout we have all heard of, yet few understand its— WHY?
Originally developed as "Contrology" during WWI by Joseph Pilates as a post‑war rehabilitation method to rebuild bedridden soldiers back to health and later popularized in the NYC dance community for injury prevention and recovery, Pilates was always intended to build resilient, efficient bodies that move well in life and sport.
At Body Chalet, Pilates is so much more than a trendy workout. It’s a tried and true system of low impact, functional movement which is both strengthening and restorative, when done with proper alignment.
We prioritize quality over quantity. You only get as much benefit as your form allows, so we emphasize precise technique, mindful breathing, and progressive challenge to build durable strength, mobility, and stability which unlocks real performance and longevity.
Our philosophy is simple: Pilates should be a form focused, athletic challenge without losing its core principles— breath, concentration, centering, precision, and flow.
CONTEMPORARY PILATES
Joseph designed what we know today as Classical Pilates, a more rigid framework, which inlays the fundamentals. Over the years classical has become the foundation for more contemporary movement.
At Body Chalet we choose Contemporary Pilates, because it honors classical principles while giving us the flexibility to apply creative variations, thoughtful modifications, and intentional progressions — informed by modern biomechanics and the myofascial network — to optimize movement efficiency, reduce injury risk, and meet each athlete’s sport, goals, and injury history.
We stay rooted in the classics while adapting exercises to the individual athlete, so they can perform at levels they never knew possible and sustain that performance for years to come.
“Change happens through movement and movement heals.”
— Joeseph Pilates
